George Jimmy Nyella

Professional biography

George, a Sociologist and community development enthusiast, is a junior academic with diverse experience in research design and management, field research, project design and implementation, community work, and academia. Currently employed at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) as a Tutorial and Research assistant, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Dar es Salaam and is pursuing a master’s degree in Sociology from the same university. His research interests lie in land tenure and climate change resilience.

Prior to this position, between 2018 and 2022, George engaged in various office-based and field research activities. These included developing data collection tools, conducting women’s economic empowerment workshops and seminars, collaborating on Randomised Control Trials, and monitoring field activities. He is passionate about rural development, particularly community mobilization, livelihood strategies, inclusive and transformative community development, and women’s economic empowerment.

Peasant economy, Rural Livelihood Strategy and Land tenure

  1. Rural peasants’ resilience and livelihood strategy in the face of challenges posed by climate change.
  2. Land parcelisation in a traditional land tenure setting: The Case of Moshi Rural District
