Master of Arts in Development Planning and Policy Analysis (MADPPA)

Programme Objectives

MADPPA is 24 months programme which aim to produce competent graduates with up-to-date knowledge and skills of planning, analysing and managing national and international policies and programmes for sustainable development.

The specific objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Equip graduates with the knowledge and skills which would enable them to prepare medium-, short- and long-term plans for national, sectoral and sub-national development.
  2. Impart students with the knowledge and skills on theoretical and practical aspects of policy formulation and advocacy.
  3. Produce graduates with the analytical skills needed to contribute effectively to the implementation, management and evaluation of national, sectoral and sub-national development policies, projects and programmes. 
  4. Produce a cadre of professionals with the ability to conduct research and create the evidence and ultimately use the evidence in creating informed development program and policies.

Admission Requirements

Potential applicants for admission to the MA (DPPA) degree programme shall either hold an undergraduate degree of SUA or a qualification from an approved institution of higher learning, deemed to be equivalent to a GPA of 2.7. Candidates who hold unclassified degrees (e.g. Bachelor Veterinary Medicine) should have an average of B in a course related to the MA (DPPA) degree programme (i.e. project planning, project appraisal, monitoring and evaluation, development planning, rural development planning, policy planning and analysis, econometrics, poverty analysis, policy analysis). Candidates with a PASS degree will also be considered for admission if:

  1. their undergraduate performance in a course related to the MA (DPPA) degree programme was a B grade average or above, and
  2. They have satisfied the college/department that they have exhibited academic potential through extensive fieldwork/research experience of at least three years and/or additional professional development courses of a duration of at least three months.

Candidates who are non-degree holders but hold Advanced or Postgraduate Diploma shall be admitted to the MA (DPPA) provided that such Diplomas are in the Upper Second/Distinction category and are from institution recognized by Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). Besides, all candidates applying for MA (DPPA) should have a background in statistics and microeconomics at least an introductory (basic) level acquired during the undergraduate training.

MODE OF APPLICATION AND PAYMENT

Candidates can apply for admission into SUA degree programmes through either of the two options:

  1. Application forms can be downloaded at http://www.sua.ac.tz/postgraduate-application-forms. Application forms can also be requested from the Director’s Office through postgraduate.students@sua.ac.tz. Such dully-filled forms can be mailed to the undersigned together with evidence of payment of Tanzanian Shillings TZS 50,000/= or US$ 20 for international students as application fee (normal application submitted by 30th June, 2021) or TZS 80,000/= or US$50 for international students (for all late applications submitted after 30th September, 2020).
     
  2. Online application through http://suasis.sua.ac.tz:9092/index.php/welcome . Make sure that all relevant academic and financial documents are attached before final submission is made.

DEADLINES FOR APPLICATIONS

The deadline for applications are scheduled as follows:
a) Normal application without penalty: before 30th June 2021
b) Late Application with penalty: 30th September 2021 onwards
