Fausta Marcelllus Mapunda

Professional Biography

Dr. Mapunda is vested with major skills in project impact evaluation, food and nutritional security issues, value chain, and gender analysis. She gained more experience by participating in numerous projects such as integrated dairy value chain and gender participation for household income and economic growth in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania.

She holds a PhD in agricultural productivity, crop diversity and nutritional security in Tanzania from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. She has a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics and a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania. Dr. Mapunda is an agricultural economist and experienced consultant with more than 15 years of experience conducting baseline household surveys. Dr. Mapunda is vested with crucial technical expertise in, but not limited to, undertaking assignments related to project designing, implementation, monitoring and impact evaluation, household economic surveys, value chain analysis and market analysis. She is an expert in assessing food and nutritional security and market systems development. Dr. Mapunda is knowledgeable in advanced econometrics quantitative techniques using STATA software. She is knowledgeable in analysing qualitative data using Atlas.ti program. Dr. Mapunda has worked on gender analysis along the poultry value chain and developing business models for breeding and distributing chicken lines with Newcastle disease resistance. 

 

Dr. Mapunda gained more experience by working in research and consultancy activities funded by the International Initiatives for Impact Evaluation (3ie), DANIDA, FAO, and SIDA. She consulted LRI, Abt: associate, and the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE). Ms. Mapunda has actively worked gender analyst in the Lake Victoria sardines value chain (IMLAF) project funded by DANIDA and Ag Results Tanzania Dairy Productivity Project supported by Abt. Associate in the USA. Dr. Mapunda highly values multidisciplinary teamwork and networking. Research Projects

Co- investigator of the project Optimizing Vaccination and Biosecurity Regimes to enhance Fight against Antimicrobial Resistance in Commercial Poultry Production in Tanzania: the project is funded by International Center for Microbial Solutions (ICAS). The project is worth USD 654,637.09

Co-investigator of the project titled “Innovations and markets for Lake Victoria Fisheries (IMLAF)”, a five years project funded by DANIDA worth DKK 9,829,998. A five-year project 2015-2019. The project focused on reducing post-harvest loss in the Lake Victoria sardines fisheries 2015-2020

Coordinator IMLAF project findings dissemination to promote adoption of sand-free sardines processing technologies, and marketing of quality sardines for household income, food and nutritional security. This was done through mass Media by attending live television shows (TBC), preparing radio programs, production of animations and documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFMhe-1BmzI Social media such as WhatsApp were used to educate the sardines’ value chain actors on ways to reduce post-harvest losses and adopting to sand-free processing technologies. Coordinated a field survey on Impact evaluation of a project titled’’ Integrated development programs in Sub Sahara Africa: Does a multi-faceted market-based approach to food crops stimulate food security and agricultural development in the breadbasket regions of Mbeya and Songwe in Tanzania? The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) funded the research. I was fully engaged in the activities from tools verification, training of 24 enumerators on efficient data collection, and coordination of both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis: September to November 2016

Co-investigator: Project titled ‘Increasing employment opportunities and marketability of fish and fish products in the Lake Victoria basin through reduction of post-harvest losses’ funded by DANIDA (DKK 300,000) through Building Stronger Universities (BSU)

Principle Investigator: project titled ‘’Collaborative governance for sustainable land management between commercial and subsistence crop producers in Kilosa and Kilombero Districts, Tanzania’’ 2011-2012. A Grant project worth 30,000 Swiss Franc (SF) funded by the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of Switzerland. The project dealt with build the capacity of local communities on sustainable land management, women empowerment on land ownership and land conflict management.
