Christopher Paul Mahonge

Professional biography

 

Christopher Paul Mahonge is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Policy Planning and Management, College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. He is specialised on Governance of Social-Ecological Systems. His research experience has focused on community-based natural resources management and livelihood improvements, linkages among the state, non-governmental and community actors and institutions, socio-economic implications of climate change, land use planning, and institutional analysis (government-based, organisation-based, and community-based formal and informal rule systems associated with governance of social-ecological systems), out-scaling and hybridization of institutions, and informal politics.

Academic qualification

Associate Research Professor in Social-Ecological Systems Governance

  • PhD (Social-Ecological System Governance) obtained from Wageningen University in the Netherlands in 2010.
  • MSc (Forestry) obtained from Sokoine University of Agriculture in 2001
  • BSc (Forestry) obtained from Sokoine University of Agriculture in 1995.

Research projects

  • 2016 – to-2021: participation “The Timber rush: Private forestry in village land” (2016-2020). The project is implemented by the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) in collaboration with Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) and University of Copenhagen (UoC).
  • 2018 (February) to 2021: Participation “Validation and Popularization of the RIPAT Approach through SUA Community”. Implemented collaboratively by College of Social Sciences and Humanities and Research, Community and Organizational Development Associates (RECODA)
  • 2017- to 2020: participation in Vanilla out-scaling and processing project implemented in Uluguru Mountains (Kibogwa and Kinole wards in particular) collaboratively by CSSH and Global Environmental Forum of Japan (2017-2019)
