MN 611: Social Anthropology


The objective of the course is to introduce students to the basic concepts and theories in social anthropology and illustrate how the discipline can contribute to natural resource management. Introduction: anthropology definition and context, relation to other sciences; The concept of society: definition of society, theories of society; The concept of culture: definition of culture, components of culture, social control; Culture and the conservation of natural resources: indigenous technical knowledge and natural resources, examples of how culture is used in management of natural resources.
