In this course students are introduced to population issues and their relationship to development, particularly in developing countries. Themes to be covered include demographic methods of data collection and analysis; evaluation of quality of data; population dynamics; determinants of population change (fertility, mortality, and migration; urbanization and population settlement; global and regional demographic situation, population structure, population distribution, contemporary population issues; theories of population change; impact of population change to development: population and environment, consequences of rapid population growth, population and food security; population policies.
