Emmanuel Timothy Malisa is a Lecturer at Sokoine University of Agriculture. He holds a PhD and an MA (Rural Development), and a BSc (Agriculture General). Dr. Malisa has been trained at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania, with additional trainings from Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) in the Netherlands and Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Norway. His main research interest is in the institutional dimensions of natural resources management, evaluation of agricultural production options, and farmer organizations. Dr. Malisa has over 10 years’ experience in the planning and management of development projects in agriculture, natural resources, and rural development fields; and eight (8) years working as an academician. Specific areas of competence include: designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and impact evaluation of development projects; natural resources management; and organizational development. Dr. Malisa has worked with NGOs for more than six (6) years, the main activities being promotion of sustainable agriculture and facilitating formation and strengthening of farmer organizations. Also, Dr. Malisa has served as an Assistant Coordinator of the Uluguru Mountains Agricultural Development Project (UMADEP) and Coordinator of the MoU between SUA and RECODA.

On-going action research:
1.Assessment of compatibility of the farmer market school (FMS) approach with the rural initiatives for participatory agricultural transformation (RIPAT) approach, and the outcome of the combination of the two approaches in terms of income generation and food security among the smallholder farmers.

1.Lead consultant: Conducting end term evaluation of Our Seeds Our Rights project, implemented by Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Tanzania
2.Lead consultant: Conducting external endline evaluation of farmers and pastoralists collaboration project in Mvomero District, a project implemented by Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT).
3.Lead consultant: Evaluation of a project on promoting options for effective and sustainable use and management of water for smallholder agricultural technologies in Same District, Kilimanjaro Region – a project implemented by CARE International in Tanzania.
4.Lead consultant: Conducting an evaluation of an intervention to promote use of organic farming practices for soil fertility improvement, weed control and insect pests management in Morogoro District.
5.Team member: Conducting internal evaluation of a project on enhancing climate change adaptation and mitigation capacities of vulnerable communities in the Uluguru Mountains.
6.Team member: Conducting internal evaluation of a project to promote bench terraces in the Uluguru Mountains.
7.Main facilitator: Training graduates (on internship programme) on writing grant winning proposals.
8.Main facilitator: Training project officers from Nicaragua on project designing.
9.Team member: Preparing a business case for Equitable Payments for Watershed Services (EPWS). In this case we focused on the value of watershed services from the Uluguru Mountains as the source for the Ruvu River. This was part of the project prepared by CARE International in Tanzania in partnership with WWF Tanzania Programme Office.
10.Main facilitator: Facilitating customization of M&E frameworks to be gender sensitive and/or development of new gendered M&E frameworks and training LiFELand project partners/implementers on gendered M&E.
