Concept of democracy and governance, evolution of democracy and governance, objective of democracy and governance; Political parties and democracy; Democracy and governance (Models of democracy and governance, Pillars of democracy,  participation, democratic governance and conflict in contemporary political systems, , democracy and development- the nexus, aid, politics and development, current global development issues and challenges, changing approaches to international aid  non –state actors and  in  social change, 

Learning Outcomes:
A successful student will be able to:

  • understand pillars of democracy and good governance;
  • describe Models of democracy and governance
  • describe  , the politics around development aid
  • analyse the role of civil society and international actors towards good governance
  • analyse Fundamental problems of participation apply pillars of democracy and governance in supporting local processes of social change
